Recently, after reading a great post about reselling at kids consigment sales, I signed up to particpate for one that is happening in my area. My area actually have 4 or 5 of these that happen around the same time twice a year, so I have good selection to choose from. If you don't know what a kid consignment sale is, I'll break it down for you.
Basically, you gather up your items that you wish to sell. Some of the sales can be extremely picky about brand names. Most sales happen in the fall and spring, so clothing items must be geared towards the upcoming season. You can also do toys, books, equipment, just about anything related to kids. The sale I'm participating in has you enter your information into an online database, which creates tags, that you print and safety pin to your clothing item. You select categories, size, and then have a small space to type information about the item. After you print, you then adhere it to the item with either a safety pin or with tape.
I did my drop-off this morning. I was actually in the first drop off spot and I think I'll continue doing that. It was nice to get in and out. They look over your items and they will reject items. I only had a few things sent back and most of it was because I had it packaged wrong (didn't have blankets/sheets in a bag) I only had about a month to collect items for this sale, so I didn't have near as much as I hoped, but I think I had enough for my first run. I took a little over 100 items (I think), which had a value of a little over $300. I paid a $15 fee and then I get 60% of the sales. You can volunteer to earn more, but I wasn't interested in doing that this time around. As a consignor, I get to preshop before the sale opens to the public, so I"m hoping to score some good Ebay stuff this week.
After dropping my items off, I swung by the local Goodwill. I've already found a few items to put in my spring collection, as it's never to early to start collecting. If you have a spouse, this is a great project to work on together. My husband and I sat down together and hung items and attached the tags. So, I guess I'll share some of my loot with him.

I just dropped off my stuff for the sale to! It was so nice to get rid of some of the items we had laying around, I bet it is the same sale. Are you going to also shop the sale? Maybe I will see you there!
I drop off for my 2nd fall consignment sale this week. It's very addicting to check your sales totals each night of the sale. My 3rd sale drop off is in a few weeks. The 4th (women's!) is about the same time. Then the 5th is a holiday sale. I hit the Goodwill outlet regularly and find lots of goodies for the family and sales. The pre-sales are usually the highest earning days. Enjoy!
@ Sarah, I'm doing the IKC sale, I'm sure they are the same. Yes, plan on doing the preshop.
@Tara..would love to hear any tips, suggestions, or about what sells well for you. I'm sure I'll be checking daily.
How did it go?
@Kim, Gymboree, Janie & Jack, Lilly Pullitzer, MiniBoden, Justice, Gap, Hartstrings, Talbots Kids, Lands' End(and more) are the sellers that bring the most profit. I also have no problem selling brands from Kohl's and Target. Shoes do really well for me, too. Merrell, Keen, Lelli Kelly, Converse. Cowboy boots always sell. I sold 3 pair yesterday at a sale. Paying by the pound = a good profit for me and a good deal for the buyer.
